Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapists provide comprehensive services at Northwoods Lodge five days per week on an outpatient basis. Aquatic therapy classes, as well as independent exercise programs utilizing nautilus equipment, are available for both residents and community members referred by a healthcare professional. Weekly meetings between therapists help us to track individual progress.

Treatment is provided in assisted living facilities, adult family homes, independent retirement apartments and the Northwoods Lodge Rehabilitation Center and gym, and includes:

Physical Therapy

• Neurological rehabilitation for CVA (stroke), head injury and Parkinson’s Disease
• Strengthening after surgery, illness or change in disease progression
• Wound care, amputee rehabilitation and prosthetic training
• Pre-surgical strengthening and planning

Speech Therapy

• Disorders of voice, speech/language and swallow intake issues in both adults and children
• Assessment of patient ability to regain swallowing function following CVA (stroke); including Vital Stimulation Therapy
• Assessment of tube-feeding progress to more independent means of nutrition intake
• Assessment and compensatory strategies for altered mental status and memory deficits
• Hearing screening and speech evaluation

Occupational Therapy

• Assessment of ability to function optimally in daily routine and environment
• Adaptive equipment evaluation and instruction
• Body mechanics training
• Home evaluation/modification recommendations
• Pre-driving screening assessment
• Hand therapy and splint fabrication

Aquatic Therapy

• Located on the Encore Campus in The Big Red Barn
• State-of-the-art therapy pool and spa
• Hydraulic lift available
